Warrenton Airpark
What goes on here?

It is mostly about the flying and the fellowship among the pilots who fly here.
Most are mainly interested in enjoying the challenge of becoming airborne and
gaining and maintaining sufficient altitude to enjoy the scenery from a leisurely
low and slow perspective - most hardly ever get more than a few miles from
the field and tend to stay within 1000 feet of the ground. About half of the
machines that fly out of here operate in the speed range of 20 to 50 miles per
hour - and generally have room for only the pilot - a few (5 or 6) can carry one
passenger - and yes, we have 3 airplanes based here that can carry 4 people.

At top right is a back-lit shot from taken in late 2005 from about 600 feet
looking west . Lower right is taken at a steeper angle looking south a few days
after a 6-inch snow we had in January, 2004. The 700-foot paved strip can be
seen in the foreground. Orientation of this main runway is 4-22. Photo and pilot
credits go to Jim Heidish flying the Flightstar ultralight for the top photo and

Warrenton Airpark is a private airfield with 3 long runways -
located 27 NM southwest of Dulles International Airport in
Northern Virginia. We are 2 miles outside the ADIZ (restricted fly
zone that is a buffer around our nation's capitol.

This scenic airfield has been in continuous operation as an active
airport since the 1930s. It is now home to a large variety of aircraft
(ultralights, light GA factory-builts and experimentals) as well as
aerial vehicles (e.g. powered paragliders and powered parachutes).
We have current hangar space for approximately 26 aircraft with
expansion underway to handle 16 more.
Located on 76 acres of rolling countryside
Surrounded by trees, streams, 3 ponds, and
Abundant wildlife (deer, foxes, eagles, wild turkeys)
